2008 Renovations

Known to have been originally constructed around 1910, much of the original wiring, plumbing, and other infrastructure are still being utilized today. Over the years, and under the care of good-hearted, albeit ill-equipped Sammys and contractors, the house has suffered from a glut of temporary repairs and shoddy construction.

The goal for this renovation program is to bring the current conditions of living and safety up to modern standards while reconfiguring the space within to better serve undergraduates and visiting alumni.

Highlights of the renovation include:

- Re-flooring all rooms with durable hardwood

- Rewiring the entire house to prevent electrical fires

- Re-plumbing the entire house

- Installation of new fire alarm/ suppression system and emergency lighting

- Introduction of spray foam insulation to help with heating issues (currently only a fraction of the house is insulated)

- Remolded kitchen for house meals

- Addition of guest bathroom (for females, alumni, and other visitors)

- Handicap accessibility and bathroom

- Reconfiguration of bedrooms to maximize sleeping space

Obviously this is an ambitious project and the budget is truly being stretched thin. The current undergraduates are taking an active role in reducing costs wherever possible and many amenities are being put on hold pending budget constraints.

It is the hope of the chapter and everyone involved in the renovations that the result of this project will produce a safe and proud place for the chapter to grow and for alumni to gather and influence future Sigma Sigma alumni.
